Pulmonary Edema occurs when the air sacs in your lungs are full of fluids, making it hard for you to breathe. The body must get enough oxygen. If not, it may be life-threatening for you. There is a medicine available to take care of the fluids in your lungs, but it is also vital to stay healthy and follow a few instructions.

You will experience shortness of breath when you are active, excited, or in harsh weather like too much cold or even too much heat. There are postures you can take to ensure that you do not feel bad. Some of them will relieve you, and others will help you deal with the shortness of breath, even if for a while.

Best Position for Pulmonary Edema

Sleeping Position

When sleeping, you should lie on your side while placing a pillow between your legs. Your back should be straight, and you should also place a pillow under your head so that it is a little elevated. If this does not work, you can bend your knees slightly and place the pillow under your knees. Ensure that you still have a pillow supporting your head, and your back should always be straight.

Sitting position

When you sit, you should ensure that your feet are flat on the floor, and you need to lean your chest forward. When in this sitting position, you should place your elbows on your knees and place your chin resting on your palms. This position will help you breathe more comfortably, and you will feel much better after a short while. Make sure that your shoulders and your neck muscles are relaxed so that you can feel better fast.

Alternatively, you can place your arms on a table while you rest your feet on the floor. Place your arms on the table and then rest your head on your arms. You can also rest your head on some pillows and relax your muscle so that your body is completely relaxed.

Standing position

Put your feet apart and stand on your feet’ shoulder and then rest your back against a wall, but make sure that you are leaning on the wall with your hips. Place your hands on your thighs and make sure that you are resting all your muscles. Dangle your arms and lean forward slightly with your arms in front of you.

Apart from these positions, it is also essential that you do the following to improve your health and breathing pattern still.

  • Ensure that you do not miss taking any medication that your doctor has prescribed, whether in the heart or blood pressure. Please do not leave your prescription at home because you never know when you might need it
  • Take your weight regularly so that you can keep it in check and limit the intake of liquids as your doctor directs
  • Eat healthier and ensure that you rest because you do not need to get too excited or tired. Do not smoke or take drugs, and avoid taking alcohol because it can worsen your symptoms
